This is a senior level DBA / DB Engineer position, with a major role in the IT Data Management team of a successful regional Workers' Compensation insurance company, for a candidate with proven database administration and T-SQL development skills .In this position you will work with DBAs, members of our Application Development team, and QA within IT to refine and expand our data warehouse and develop system interfaces and management, financial, and regulatory reports.
Job Requirements:
- Managing and maintaining all aspects of a multi-server, multi-application SQL Server (2000/2005) production environment, including best practice standardization (software, file system, naming conventions, etc), security, documentation, and automation of various routine DBA tasks such as backup, restore, replication, reporting, batch processes.
- Actively participate in all phases of data management from data modeling, warehouse and data mart design, to coding, testing, and technical documentation
- Accurately assess technical feasibility and development effort given business specifications; identify and propose alternatives to meet given resource/time constraints
- Support and enhance existing data repositories and reports using SQL Server 2000 and 2005, Transact SQL, MS Reporting Services, and Crystal Reports.
- Support the Development and QA teams and their environments .
- Analyze existing reports and application data to diagnose and identify solutions to reported problems.
- Work with users in a variety of functions to understand their reporting needs; document requirements for development by yourself or your teammates.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years experience in reporting development and data management.
- Experience writing and troubleshooting complex stored procedures in and out of the context of a client server or web based application. Should know how to troubleshoot and tune T-SQL queries.
- Language requirements: Advanced Transact SQL (T-SQL, Stored Procedures, UDFs) on Microsoft SQL Server Platform
- Strong preference given to experience with SQL Server 2005, SQL Client Tools, and relational database design.
- Experience with SQL Reporting Services or Crystal Reports preferred; experience with other report/query tools such as Hummingbird, Business Objects, etc. is a plus.
- In depth understanding of SQL Server 2000/2005 architecture including tables, constraints, indexes, stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, backup, recovery, replication, log shipping, security, performance tuning, data transfer between heterogeneous data sources using DTS, BCP, and SSIS, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Notification Services
- Data transfer skills: SQL Server to SQL Server, between SQL server and other formats, XML, etc.
- Experience in OLTP and Data warehouse (OLAP) modeling as well as ETL
- MCDBA is a plus
- Strong preference given to experience in the insurance, healthcare, or financial services industries.
- Proficiency in Excel is required; proficiency in MS Access is a plus.
