Network Engineer Spec1
Summary
This position is responsible for the on-going operational support of the LAN/WAN environment for the World Headquarter facility in Lake Forest, CA. This includes but is not limited to the on-going day-to-day MAC (moves, ads, changes) activity, switch operation and maintenance of all hardware. Position is responsible for working closely with the Senior Network Engineer to insure the integrity and performance of the corporate Local Area Network and Wide Area Network are maintained. Also responsible with assisting the senior network engineers with cable infrastructure, patch cord management, and other support issues related to the networking services. Domestic or international travel may be required. This position is also responsible for assisting with project coordination of all cable infrastructure additions or deletions at multiple corporate campus locations in CA. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide detailed support for LAN environment
- Provide detailed support for WAN environment
- Provide detailed support for new WAN/LAN implementations
- Provide detailed support for network monitoring of the WAN environment (globally)
- Provide detailed support for the remote access environment
- Provide detailed support for trend analysis reporting
- Work along with Senior Engineers with implementation of network policies and procedures
- Work along with Network Manager with vendor management
- Work along with Network Manager with coordination of services with LEC, CLECs, and IXCs
- Respond to trouble tickets received from the Corporate Help Desk for all corporate sites
- Work along with Senior Engineers on architectural network redesigns
- Provide detailed support for cable infrastructure build out
- Provide detailed support to I.T. counterparts in Asia and Europe

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 3- 5 years IT related experience
- Hands on experience with a telecommunications company, or within an Information Technology organization. This should include basic knowledge of telephony, networking, public telephone switched network, and familiar with other I.T. disciplines.
- CCNA certification or equivalent required
Specific Knowledge/Skills
Working knowledge of network hardware, protocols and internet standards, including TCP IP, MPLS, IPSEC, Cisco IOS, SSL,
IEEE 802.11, DNS, DHCP, and WINS, BGP, and EIRGP. Familiar with Microsoft Windows (XP to Window Server 2003)
Computer, Software, Tools, Equipment, and Machinery Skills
PC, lab/test equipment, office machines. PC/laptop on a daily basis; telephone test set daily; fluke meter daily; cellular telephones daily; cellular two way radio telephones daily; and other tools as required by the various platforms and protocols we run.
Language Skills, able to:
English is the primary language used and should be at a high level of proficiency, as well as reading, speaking and writing. Also, because we are Global companies, with presence throughout the world, bi-lingual languages are desired.
Reasoning Ability, able to:
- Needs to understand and comprehend troubleshooting analysis and techniques
- Needs to understand importance of reasoning when working with various levels of employees, engineers, and senior management

Physical Demands and Environmental Demands
The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job requires the employee to: spend some time, but less than one-third, standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, or lifting up to 20 pounds, or climbing ladders and working in secondary ceiling environments when installing cable infrastructure. Spend two-thirds or more time sitting, using hands to finger, handle, feel or operate equipment, talking or hearing, seeing with normal and close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); to work in a normal office environment with moderate noise and constant exposure to PC and PC monitor.
